Kate Chopin: The Role of the Wife and Mother
I found this website to be incredibly helpful because it gave background detail on the way women were expected to act during the early 1900's. Though the site did not feature much information on style and fashion during this period, it was able to give the reader a strong idea about the role of a woman. With the introduction of feminism style began to change and so did the assumed roles of a women, and this resource was helpful to look back on when comparing women during the feminist movement and women during the Edwardian era. Fashion History- Edwardian Fashion Designs of Late 1890's-1914 This site equipped me with much of the basic knowledge that was necessary to have when researching fashion during the turn of the 20th century. This website in particular gave me the basis of important style icons from the past as well as the typical dress of that period. This site provided links to other helpful websites as well. Without this website in particular it would have been difficult to find the basis for where to start searching for such things as information for the Gilded Age timeline and the historical icons of that era. A site which is worth observing for aesthetically pleasing qualities, Vogue/VogueArchieve was a terrific website of reference for fashion. It included information about the editors, past and present, along with many archives of previous articles, magazines and covers. The broad search selection enabled me to find hoards of information about various sub topics pertaining to fashion, icons and factual information. It offered help for each different part of the project at hand, making it less stressful to find reliable information. Also, the website provided links which led to other sites, making it reliable and easier to find information. |
The New York Times Book Review: A Biography of Alice Roosevelt Longworth
Though this website had many useless bits of knowledge regarding Alice, there was a plentiful amount of information about the influence Alice had on the women growing up during her time living in the White House. This website provided many examples of experiences during her youth as well as quotes from Alice herself or someone speaking about Alice. Overall, I found this site to be instrumental when the research on Alice Roosevelt Longworth began. Charles Dana Gibson and The Gibson Girls The site proved to be the most helpful when researching The Gibson Girl because it gave the basic information one would need to start the necessary extensive research. This site also had one of the quotes that was used in The Gibson Girl’s biography, therefore it proved to be helpful in more than one way. This site allowed us to begin the research at a basic level and build up from there, ensuring the knowledge for the subject was plentiful enough to understand and build upon. Lady Duff Gordon This website gave me almost all of my information on this influential woman. Her birth date, rise to fame, challenges, and death were all dialogued in this one particular website. The only thing this website did not provide was quotes from Lady Duff Gordon, which proved to be difficult to find. Overall this site was helpful and gave us much needed information on a woman that was such an icon during her reign in the fashion industry. |
The Metropolitan Museum of Art's website was helpful in the quest for information regarding past fashion styles along with current international and national biographies on people. There is a clear apppreciation for art that is found in paintings, the three dimensional and even in the undying style of fashion. Infact the display on the homepage was a thorough look at fashion and the authentic look it has taken over the years. The homepage is overwhelming at first because of the amount of categories and subjects that are presented, but with a little guidance much information can be attained. This is because it serves as an archive for history along with an appreciation for new and old art, while also being a reference for the museum itself. It was a surprisingly successful website and I have no complaints.

Famous Women and Beauty was a site which was helpful in researching for biographies, mainly because of the in depth look it provides for many style icons and the popularity that they have, and how it has to do with fashion. A simple website, it gives a plethora of famous women's biographies and various impacts on society. I would not rely on this site if I was going to do a detailed report on a given icon, but it was very useful for acquiring background information.

Esquire.com was a good starting point for researching different events in chronological order. Particularly when researching Ralph Lauren, this website made it easy for me to continue on looking up other more relevant parts of his life. It gave more ideas about what I should use for quotes, what interviews I should inquire about, and also what I should focus on as a main point. It was not a detailed look into the order of events of Lauren, but as said it was a promising starting point. The twenty or so events given were all organized and spaced out, accurately showcasing points of interest.

The Fraser Institute was a factual website which was able to provide me with evidence and the explanations behind laws put in place regarding NAFTA and the American industry guidelines. Among the information I found, there was much more decent information explaining various laws and rules that America had enacted with other countries. Though bland, I would be able to find more primary source documents on this website than other quotable sources.
